Bringing Home Hope - on sale now

Bringing Home Hope is a compilation of selected stories about survivors of the Asian tsunami. It is an unusual account and the stories effectively capture the essence of the lives of twenty-two individuals and their families, living in some of Sri Lanka’s most remote locations from Kalarawa to a new village named Salzburg in the area of Galle.

The Asian tsunami affected everyone to varying degrees. For communities living along Sri Lanka’s east coast, previously ravaged by war, the tsunami added yet another dimension to their already volatile lives. For many others it was the first disaster, they faced, of this magnitude. Bringing Home Hope is a testimony of their dynamic outlook, adaptability and unending will to survive.

The twenty two stories narrate well-researched information in an intimate style, bringing out the individual voices of each of the story tellers. Candid photographs give context to well-researched information highlighting the frustrations and aspirations of the survivors, as they urge their new lives into the realms of normalcy.

Commissioned by the Austrian-Swiss Red Cross, Bringing Home Hope was written by Anushka Pereira and the accompanying photographs, provided by Timothy Seneviratne.
